Vrbno pod Pradědem is situated in the mountain chain Hrubý Jeseník at the height above the sea level of 520 - 590 m, in the valley at the junction of three rivers - White, Middle and Black Opava. Boundary of the Protected Landscape Area Jeseníky (area of 740 km2) passes here and represents the real gateway to this region as well as to the high mountain zones of the highest mountain chain of the Moravian and Bohemia - Jeseníky. Establishment of the town is connected with the year 1611. The Empire St. Michael parish church of 1840 - 1843 and certain structures and villas belong to the historical monuments. Ruins of the Fürstenwalde castle rise above the city on the Zámecká hora (854 m a.s.l.), ruins of other castle-guards are spread in the surroundings.
